Melita Beauty Night Out

Round about this time of year, Melita Health & Beauty organize a Beauty Night Out for us bloggers and every year, I look forward to attending and try not to miss it. Why? First off, it's a great event to meet other bloggers who I don't see at other events; secondly, it's a one-stop shop for all things health and beauty; and thirdly, the staff are super sweet and always so generous with us but I'll get to that in a second.

Having recently changed their logo, Melita Health & Beauty also chose to do things a little differently this time - we had the opportunity to win 3 prizes on the night, 2 of which came courtesy of Uriage and their new AGE Protect Anti-Aging range, the main event sponsor; while the final prize was €200 worth of Stefania d'Alessandro makeup in a beautiful Alaïa case. This all took place last Thursday night

First let me show you a little bit of what's new and then I'll get into all the fun details!

Ok, so for the first prize of the night, my name was drawn! I won the AGE Protect Night Cream and AGE Protect Serum from Uriage, so now my AGE Protect regime is complete!

Those of us who made a purchase on the night were eligible to be in with a chance to win the big prize which was drawn just before we left. I bought the big sized Glov which is amazing for travelling as I don't need to pack a lot of makeup removers with me. Lo and behold, my name was drawn again! Needless to say, I was ecstatic at this! Here all the good things that were in the case and the very generous goodie bag handed to us at the end of the night!

The moment they announced my name for the big prize draw :)

I will be giving away some of the stuff in an upcoming giveaway soon so be sure to keep following me on Facebook and Instagram not to miss out on anything. I had a really fun night chatting away to fellow bloggers and makeup lovers and I love how our small community gets so well with each other and I love meeting the new ones too :) Oh and we got to do this over countless beautiful makeup and perfume displays and good food too! Thank you so much Melita Health & Beauty for having us, I'll surely enjoy the products!

Event | Beauty Night Out at Melita - Celebrating 45 Years of Health & Beauty

I always get excited whenever I am invited to birthday parties - I think of them as a celebration of what has passed and what is to come which usually means bigger, better and brighter things. This time round, I was invited to join the celebrations as Melita Health & Beauty Clinic in St. Julian's turns 45 this year.

I always enjoy events hosted at Melita as we are surrounded with top makeup, perfume and skin care brands and we also get the chance to catch up in a rather relaxed atmosphere (of course Prosecco and delicious canapés are a welcome bonus after a day's work). The party served as a springboard to launch new offers and products such as Blinc Eye Cosmetics, the new Revlon HD Velvety Matte Lip Colors, new products by Sleek and other new launches from brands such as Collistar, Max Factor and Shiseido. As for fragrances and skin care, there are some new launches just in time for Christmas shopping as well.

The special bloggers discount on the night was the perfect excuse to justify treating myself to yet another Sleek i-Divine palette to add to my ever growing collection and I was delighted to see there was another palette included in the very generous goodie bag we were each given at the end of the night.

Melita will be celebrating their birthday with the public with special offers running all throughout November so be sure to like their Facebook page to stay updated.

Review: Collistar Eyeshadows

I don't know if you are aware of the Italian brand Collistar. It is a drugstore brand but belongs to the highly priced section so you can imagine the look on my face when a beautician friend of mine gave me not 1 but 5 eyeshadows (here let me remark that I never had to fork out a Euro cent, or back in the day, a single Maltese cent to purchase eyeshadow as I get loads as gifts... check out my eyeshadow collection here).

Here are the eyeshadows and a swatch of each:

Shade 1 ~ A golden peach (left)
&
Shade 3 ~ A true gold (right)

Shade 8 ~ A vibrant violet

Shade 13 ~ A shimmery navy blue
&
Shade 20 ~ A light rosy pink

It's kind of annoying that they don't have a name but just a number isn't it? Anyhow, this doesn't affect the quality, so I can live with it! Furthermore, the numbers are only for referral purposes within this post as Collistar has now named the eyeshadows and given them different numbers. Moreover, the 'Luce' ones (nos. 1 & 20) are no longer available. You can check out the whole range of Silk Effect eyeshadows here.

Since the ones I have are usually given out as samples for clients to try, the packaging isn't exactly classy: just a flimsy plastic case (see image below), but the eyeshadow bit itself is quite nice, with a gold rim and the shade number in the corner and a silky-like (let's call it an) eyeshadow pan-holder. So don't worry, yours won't come in the flimsy packaging, but in this professional-looking case:

Oh, and by the way, if you happen to come across some empty eyeshadow palette that is small enough not to be bulky and large enough to hold all five of them, please let me know as I cannot seem to find any :S and I desperately need one to get rid of the plastic packaging.

You can see from the swatches above that these eyeshadows are very much pigmented. However, I would say that the 'Silk Effect' ones are a little bit more pigmented than the 'Luce' ones. They don't crease or fade (even without a primer), so they have quite a good staying-on power. Nevertheless, they are easy to take off at the end of the day.

They don't have any smell and they feel nice to the touch. They aren't very chalky or powdery, so you are guaranteed excellent application without worrying of the eyeshadow dust falling where it isn't supposed to whilst applying it.

I can't really decide which is my favourite out of all 5 because I really like all of them, but I kinda tend to reach for the gold one (3) and the pink one (20) the most, closely followed by the navy blue one (13). I really like the light purpley shimmery undertone the latter one has. With regards shimmer, shades 3 and 13 are a bit shimmery, but not that much. Shade 8 on the other hand is a rather matte colour with inconspicuous shimmery flecks. If I had to compare shades 1 and 20, which belong to the 'Luce' range, I'd say shade 20 has an evident sparkle, whilst shade 1 is a matte colour with just a hint of sparkle.
